It was October of 1931...When many folks think autumn, they see Converses crunching through leaves, coffee cups, and pretty girls in sweaters. But the fall mood- the one everybody knows but is too immaterial to be quite described- has always reminded me of autumns long gone by.
Fall gives me the impression of flappers, New York City, film noir detectives in the rain. Crackly recordings of trumpet jazz, vintage postcards, and the slightly creepy feeling of old photographs, where that era seems to be more a physical place than a concept of time.
